This was my very first "professional" web project, even though I was just starting out and doing it from my young age perspective. I remember walking around town with my camera, photographing every business I could access - the bakery, the pharmacy, local shops. Some business owners were curious, others skeptical about "the internet thing," but most were supportive when they understood I was creating something for the community. The beauty of using Dreamweaver's WYSIWYG editor was that it let me learn HTML organically. I'd drag a table or an image in the visual editor, then flip to code view out of curiosity to see what it generated. Over time, I started recognizing patterns, understanding tags, and eventually I could write HTML directly. It was like learning a language through immersion. The pure HTML approach meant everything was manual - no databases, no dynamic content, just carefully organized HTML files uploaded via FTP. But that simplicity was perfect for learning. Every page, every link, every image tag - I understood exactly what was happening. Creating this town website taught me that web development isn't just about code - it's about serving a community, organizing information in useful ways, and making technology accessible. These lessons have stayed with me throughout my career. It also gave me my first taste of the satisfaction that comes from building something useful that people actually use.
